Visit Ugento Nature and Culture
It's possible to visit the beauties of Ugento along two complementary paths.
Naturalistic one that winds along the coastline. This area, defined site of Community importance Natura2000 the European Union, has become the Regional Natural Park in May 2007. Proceeding from the sea to the hinterland is possible to observe a succession of different habitats and vegetation bands like the sandy and rocky coasts, dunes humid environments, those marshes and the Mediterranean. Stage of particular interest in the hinterland is represented by "gravinelle" karst gullies running parallel and perpendicular to the coastline. Inside them survive a vegetation lecceta (Quecus ilex), with specimens of significant development, enriched with carob trees (Ceratonia siliqua).

The second route, the historical-cultural winds through the streets of the city center. Besides some signs of prehistoric remains such as dolmens and mirrors or messapici imposing walls of cemeteries and important, are more recent examples such as crypts and cave churches of the early medieval period, the sixteenth-century coastal towers to defend the Turkish invasions, the castle and cathedral from Neoclassical facade. Moreover, many archaeological finds such as inscriptions, furniture and utensils are kept in the museum of archeology and paleontology of the next inauguration.

The City of Ugento also triggered, in collaboration with the owners of the Castle, a procedure for applying for funding aimed at the restoration and enjoyment of the property that by July 2005 opened its doors to tourists and the many Ugentini eager to see the splendid rooms and not just the unique exterior architecture.
